With category rank 1950 it is really hard to get Mechanical in NIT Trichy even though you have state quota. But there are good chances of getting other branches at NITT.
If you are keenly interested in only Mechanical Engineering, you can apply for other new NITs

Hindustan University conducts its own exam for admissions that is HITSEEE. The closing cut off rank for this year is 2700, for the counselling rounds.
