As per the general rule you need to have not necessarily taken up science but you need to have studied Physics ,Mathematics and chemistry as your core subjects in 11th and 12th standard with a minimum 50% aggregate marks in 12th standard Examination from a recognized board.
According to the eligibility criteria prescribed the SEBI to write the Grade A exam, a candidate must have a graduation degree in law/engineering/chartered accountant etc. If you complete your mechanical engineering and get a degree, you will absolutely be eligible for the exam.
