merchant navy related information

mrinalini048 22nd Jan, 2022

Hey!

Individuals hired by commercial shipping enterprises to manage the transfer of products between continents and countries pursue a career as merchant navy. Do you enjoy being near the water or wishing to go by ship? As a merchant marine officer, you can perform it as part of your work. India, being a peninsular country, has a plethora of seaports. Not only that, but rivers are used to transport a lot of indigenous products to other nations. As a result, a merchant marine officer and his crew are able to transport products from one location to another. Deck officers, engineers, and ratings are all positions available in the merchant navy. Each of them has a distinct part in ensuring that the cargo is transported safely from one place to another. To prepare for merchant navy positions after high school, students should pursue B. Tech in Marine Engineering, B. Tech in Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering, or B. Tech in Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering. We will explore how to join the merchant navy, merchant navy eligibility, merchant navy salaries in India, and merchant navy employment after 12th grade in this post.

Role of Merchant Navy

Individuals working in the merchant navy are responsible for ensuring that everyone onboard follows strict health and safety guidelines, monitoring and maintaining life-saving equipment such as fire fighting equipment and life-saving boats, maintaining all legal and operational records of the ship, checking the weather, navigating reports, and taking appropriate actions, overseeing the ship's entire machinery for everyday use, inspecting the mechanical and electrical equipment, and maintaining all legal and operational records of the ship.

  • Coordination- Coordination aids in the reduction of organisational conflicts, rivalries, losses, delays, and other challenges. This ensures the organization's seamless operation. As a result, with the help of team collaboration, an organisation may quickly and successfully achieve its objectives. They are in charge of checking if and navigation reports and taking appropriate action, as well as coordinating secure cargo loading, storage, and unloading.
  • Management- If you work on a ferry or cruise ship, you'll also be responsible for the care and safety of passengers, as well as managing ship communication systems and keeping legal and operational documents like the ship's log. Working with goods or humans, or controlling them, is referred to as management. Cooperation and coordination of a company's actions are required to meet specified goals. Management is also a production aspect that works in tandem with machinery, equipment, and materials.
  • Supervision- They manage the operation and maintenance of deck machinery such as winches and cranes, as well as the monitoring and maintenance of safety, firefighting, and life-saving equipment. They also supervise the ship to ensure that the highest levels of health and safety are maintained. Work planning and scheduling, decision-making, performance and compliance oversight, offering suggestions and team-building, and sustaining organisational performance are all common supervisory duties.
  • Maintenance of equipment-Officers must also run and maintain the ship's mechanical and electrical equipment, handle power generation and distribution systems, as well as refrigeration, ventilation, and pumping systems, and carry out routine equipment inspections and maintenance. The goal of maintenance is to demonstrate the greatest possible performance and efficiency of the manufacturing process, utilities, and supporting infrastructure at the lowest feasible cost while maintaining acceptable quality, safety, and environmental protection.
