To get into MICA we have to take the MICAT exam, but do we also have to fill a separate form for the MICA college? Like the one that happens with NMAT and SNAP.

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 29th Nov, 2020

MICA offers both Residential and online Programmes. Under Residential list, MICA offers:

Post Graduate Diploma in Management Communications PGDM-C

Fellow Programme in Management FPM

Post Graduate Certificate Programme in Crafting Creative Communication CCC

For being eligible for these programmes, you should have completed your Graduation in any discipline that is recognised by the Association of Indian Universities in 10+2+3 format or an equivalent qualification. Those appearing for final examinations of Graduation are also eligible to apply. MICA more of shortlists those Candidates who demonstrate aptitude for expressing, assessing and or conceiving ideas to achieve business results. MICA has a 3 step selection process which can be read and understood from the official website: https://www.mica.ac.in/postgraduate-programme/selection-process-and-timelines. But to give you an idea,

1. You have to appear for any one of the entrance examinations among CAT/XAT.GMAT. Your CAT 2020, XAT 2021 or GMAT 2019 onwards scores will be considered for MICA admission process. You need to update your score options in the online application form i.e. CAT 2020, xat 2021, GMAT 2019 onwards. Once you receive your CAT score/XAT Registration number and GMAT score, you need to update the details on the official website on or before January 20th, 2021. For XAT, you only need to mention the XAT registration number and your score will be collected from XLRI.

2. MICA Admission test:All Candidates will be assessed on MICAT which consists of 3 sections namely:

Psychometric Test

Descriptive Test

Divergent and Convergent Thinking/ Verbal Ability. Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation and General Awareness.

So even if you appear for CAT/XAT.GMAT, you still need to appear for MICAT.

3. Candidates who have been shortlisted on the basis of their performance in CAT/XAT/GMAT and MICAT have to appear for both Group Exercise and Personal Interview. This is the 3rd step.

Group Exercise and Personal Interview Shortlisting process:

Psychometric test is a qualifier. Those who qualify in the Psychometric test have to also score a minimum cut off in CAT/XAT percentile/GMAT score. And their relative performance in CAT/XAT/GMAT will be considered. Those who qualify on the   basis of their CAT/XAT/GMAT performance, Section B of MICAT scores will be assessed. And those Candidates who qualify on the basis of relative performance subject to a minimum cut off in Normalised scores of Section B of MICAT shall be assessed on Section C of MICAT. And the final composite score is calculated using the weightages:

  • CAT/XAT/GMAT: 20%
  • MICAT: 30%
  • GE: 20%
  • PI: 30%

MICAT is the entrance examination for admission to MICA Ahmedabad alone and so for admission to MICA, you need to fill in the MICAT application form, CAT/XAT/GMAT application form and appear for the exams. The MICAT application form is good enough. You do not need to fill another separate application form. For more information, please read our article: https://media.careers360.com/articles/micat

Hey guys my expected CAT percentile is quite low - from 78-83% ish. Is there any chance of me getting a call for gdpi for MICA? micat 1 went average but I know I can score around 45 in micat 2. Overall extra curriculars and acad profile is decently strong.

harshitasharansrivastava Student Expert 10th Dec, 2020

Hi Dear,

Yes, you will get a call from MICA if you score more than 75 percentile in CAT/XAT/GMAT and score good in MICAT. The college takes into consideration score of both the exams for final selection. The weightage for selection is as follows:

Component

Weightage percentage

MICAT Exam Score

30%

Personal Interview (PI)

30%

Group Exercise (GE)

20%

CAT/XAT/GMAT Score

20%

Total Weightage

100%

If I score 600 on GMAT and score 40+ on MICAT (with well-written essay), can I expect a call from MICA? PS: I want to join the 2021-23 batch and by then, would have 3 years of work experience in marketing and branding. Please help, and thank you in advance :)

Let me get this straight. There is no specific cutoff for MICAT Exam. In past, students have got calls for interview even at 45 scaled score and have not got any call even at 55 scaled score. Some of my acquaintances have even got calls at around 45 scaled score, 72 percentile in CAT and but they had exceptional writing skills. So it all depends on how your profile looks overall, not only on individual test scores.
Good luck!

MICAT 2 raw score 45.5, scaled 56.5 CAT PERCENTILE - 85.14 Based on ghis what are the chances gor getting shortlisted?

Sonali Sahu Student Expert 20th Mar, 2020

Hello,

Score is moderate which will make difficult to get an admission. Moderate because your rank is close to cutoff value. as college cutoff list is not available it is difficult to say in which you can apply. Cutoff list will be released prior to counselling so keep an eye on it. Be attentive and keep taking updates so that you don't miss any information.

Hope it helps!

I got 89%ile in XAT but only 83%ile in CAT. Will they consider my XAT score instead of CAT? And how much will I have to score in MICAT 2, say with a decent attempt of the descriptive section?

Sampriti Gupta Student Expert 4th Feb, 2020
Your XAT scores would be considered during the final selection if you've applied through both CAT and XAT. Meanwhile if you manage to score above 50 in MICAT then considering your XAT percentile, which is very good, you can easily get through if you perform well in the subsequent selection rounds. For the descriptive test the best attempt was to answer all the 4 questions. The first 2 being of 10 Mark's each and the 3rd and the 4th questions being of 20 and 30 respectively. So if you managed to do atleast the first 3 questions then that would be even better and can assure you a higher chance of final selection. The final selection is based on the following criteria

CAT/XAT percentile = weightage is 20%

MICAT = 30%

Group Discussions/Group Exercise = 20%

PI = 30%

i have score of 95 in cat and i was thinking how much should i score in micat to assure a call??

Pranav Mishra 26th Jan, 2020

Hello Aspirant,

Your percentile in CAT is great congratulations for it, Now the marks you should need to score for getting a call will be 50+ to make yourself in a good position for getting admission, Although there are students who got less than 50 marks in MICAT and get a call but it is not a safe score for MICAT, So I would suggest you to score above 50 in MICAT exam for making yourself in a safe side for admission.

I hope the above information is beneficial for you.

All the best.

my cat percentile is below 70, is there any chance that i will be further considered if i score well in micat?

Pranav Mishra 17th Jan, 2020

Hello Aspirant,

As far as last year cutoff is concerned which is 78 percentile in CAT you have no chance. Getting good score in MICAT can get you a call till 75 percentile at some conditions but getting less than 70, In my opinion there is no chance, However MICA also accept XAT score so, if you have good percentile like 75-80 in it than you have a chance to convert it.

I hope the above information is beneficial for you.

All the best.
