Well the category will depend on the way you apply. If you apply through central quota, then you would have to be general category student there and if you apply through state quota then you will have to be a OBC category student there.

During your gate preparation your subjects will be just same as that of mechanical engineering but during paper you will write the subject code as MN which shows specialization or MTECH in mining .
