They are very strict so that students give more times on studies and less time on other activities but yes for calls and assignment work you can you use for phone for sure and yes usage of phone in class is not allowed

But a student is allowed to make calls from STDs setup in their school campus. Also teachers of JNV are very helpful and lend you their phones in case of any emergency.
