According to your query, Master of philosophy in english literature or M. Phil in English literature is a postgraduate course of 2 years in general but can it can be of more years if you took distance education. The eligibility is that the students must have earned their master's degree either in english or related subjects. The student also must have a minimum of 50% marks in masters for the admission. MPhil finds a good base for PhD and it also boosts confidence of the student. Also an MPhil can become a lecturer with good salary. The degree is also helpful in career as Project Officer or Project Management Officer.

In recent days as far as I know, you donot need an M.phill degree to pursue your PhD.
So I would advise you to directly take up PhD after your Masters. But again an M.phill will definitely add value to your profile/resume.

Following are the universities that offer M.phill in Genetics engineering:
NIMS University, Jaipur
University of Delhi
University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram

If you haven't done your undergrad yet, then my advice would be a B.Tech degree in Genetics Engineering. IIT Madras is one of the best universities for Genetics Engineering.
