On 27th December 2002, in the line of all other RECs of India, RIT Jamshedpur was converted to National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur with the status of a Deemed University as per the decision of Government of India. The Institute is fully funded and governed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur is a government college. It was established on 15th August 1960 as a joint venture of Government of India and the Government of Bihar in the chain of REC's (Regional Engineering College) in India. It was among the first eight Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs) established as part of the Second Five-Year Plan (1956 - 1961).
National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur's highest CTC has been 72.5 LPA and averages CTC has been 14.72 LPA. More than 230 companies visit for recruitment process and their placement percentage is 97.2. The placement season runs through the course of the year commencing the last week of July through to June. Pre-Placement Talks are also conducted in this regard as per mutual convenience. Job offers, dates of interviews, selection of candidates etc. are announced through the Training & Placement Cell.
