yes you can take drop and study for jee main. but think you would have 2 years gap between 12 and starting of btech. and some companies doesnot allow 2 years gap between academic gap.
and now you are studying in btech and you need to go back to your 12 syllabus and have to study accordingly. see to get a good job from a below average college would be difficult, but there is many resources where you can get good jobs like amcat, elitmas, co cubes exam. first of all make a strong technical knowledge, then finding job will be easier for you.

Generally the classes for B.Tech students start in first week of August at NITK Surathkal. Previously the classes started in mid of July. But now they start after the completion of CSAB special round and completion of all the admission procedure. For updates regularly check the college website.

I am assuming you already check out cutoffs and everything to get to be decided with metallurgy in NIT,Surathkal of which i would recommend you to select it as the college reputation and quality education goes ,since it would not only provide a more valid degree but also with a great college and Engineering experience and once you get into the college there is always a chance of upgrading your branch with high CGPA and teacher recommendation if you work hard enough during college exainations and practical project and i would anytime recommend you to go for it.
But if you are keenly interested in CSE and is expected to enjoy more of a college life than maintaing a good CGPA then i would recommend VIT since the CSE branch can be explored and put into career with sheer dedication and knowledge no matter of the college and education as there are more and more opportunities developing in private colleges like VIT

Dear student, as you have got the kottayam branch in the first round of counselling process, you may hardly move on to NIT andrapradesh and not more than that. It depends on the availability of seats after the first round counselling is over and even on the number of applicants and their choices.

In Nits like ( Surathkal , Trichy , Warangal) have like 8 btech courses apart from CSE …That is why the median salary is low ( it is like 9.86 Lakhs including all branches in 2020) . But the average package for both CSE and IT in Nitk is 22 LPA and median was 18 Lakhs in 2020 . I think the median salary would outburst next year in nitk ( around 13 lakhs including all branches ) because they included Minor courses (in CS and IT for other branch students ) in the curriculum from 2018 onwards ….and next year the 2018 batch will graduate (Hoping to have better placments avg package for CS will be around 26Lpa )
And u can’t compare iiitb with other IIT’s and NIT’s as it is like not comparing apple to apple …because iiitb offers only Integrated Master degree and we get to miss out Master Abroad …And the reason for high package is because there only only 2 branches CSE and ECE ….and the batch strength is also very low( 150 together branches) ..which results in high average Package ..
The placement statistics is because of the computer oriented courses of iiit. But in nit’s more branches are there where the placement is not that great as computers science

Also last year 2020 , 23 students from Nitk got selected in GSoC , highest so far . Whereas in IIIT B it has not even crossed 10

Also pls do mention the fees they charge …..it is close to a management quota seats…( Tuition fees is More than 5 LAKHS per year ) in IIITB
Top 5 NITS CSE has cut off ranks less than AIR 2000 . Most of ur friends wouldn’t have got admission in NITS . Also even the cutoff for atleast EEE in top 4 NITS is around 6 - 6.5 K . Whereas the cutoff for CSE in ur college is 7.5 K and EC 9 K . They have joined IIITB because they couldn’t manage to get a circuital branch in top 4 NITS .
