is graduation marks matters in nimcet and cat and top institutes admission

v neeraja 22nd Mar, 2021

In order to attempt CAT the candidate must have a bachelor's degree with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA. Therefore, graduation marks are definitely important even to attempt the exam.

Are good marks important? What percentage is good in graduation?

Top B-Schools, especially IIMs, generally consider the overall profile of the candidate along with the CAT percentile. The aggregate score of the candidate for admission is decided by giving weightage to 10th, 12th, graduation percentages along with your CAT percentile and GD + PI scores. The weightage given to each of the sub-segments vary from college to college.

Some of the top IIMs even have a base cutoff for the percentage secured in graduation and therefore having a higher percentage always helps. Generally 80% is a safe score to obtain in order to ensure that you are eligible in the first place to each of the colleges you apply to including IIM A.

Even for NIMCET the minimum eligibility is 50% while the individual college admissions depends on the score decided by the college. Also the scores are compared with your peers. Hence, it is important to get a good graduation percentage.

Despite all these, if your CAT percentile, and GD and Interview are exceptionally well, you can be selected into some of the top B-Schools with normal graduation marks.

I graduated with B.sc (physics) ,Mathematics is as subsidiary subject in only first two year (part 1 & 2) in final year I have no math...... am I eligible for NIMCET Exam??

NAVNEET PANDEY 10th Mar, 2021

Hello pragya,

The eligibility criteria of NIMCET are-

  1. Candidates must have scored atleast 60% or 6.5 cgpa( or 55% and 6.0 cgpa if sc/st).
  2. Bsc/Bsc(hons)/BCA/BIT of minimum three years full time with mathematics/statistics/ equivalent subject as one of the subjects.

So you need mathematics or statistics or any equivalent subject you have pursued full time to get admission.

can i opt mca by giving nimcet i have just completed BTech in cse

harshitasharansrivastava Student Expert 26th Jan, 2021

Hello dear,

The syllabus, as well as concepts covered in both these courses, is quite the same but B. Tech CSE is a 4 year undergraduate course whereas MCA is a three-year post-graduate degree. That is the basic difference between them. MCA emphasizes on computer application development where as B. Tech is engineering based course with specialization in IT. MCA is generally assumed equivalent to  B.Tech  in CSE . If you ask my opinion you can opt for M.Tech after B.tech that could be a better option for career point of view.

Good Luck
