Good Morning. Is Mechanical in IIITDM, Kancheepuram or Chemical engineering from NIT, Trichy better?

gopi 10th Jul, 2025

Hello Aspirant,

Both Mechanical Engineering in IIITDM Kancheepuram and Chemical Engineering in NIT Trichy have their own strengths and weaknesses; they are both good options (yes, I know this is a cliché). Which is the better choice for you to take will ultimately depend on your interests and future ambitions.

You should take Mechanical in IIITDM Kancheepuram if:

  1. You are specifically interested in design, manufacturing, robotics or mechatronics, etc.
  2. You prefer a design-based curriculum that also allows for some of your own interdisciplinary work from parallel fields such as electronics and computer science.
  3. You plan on doing higher studies in mechanical/design-related fields or, you are going for a role in technology where you want to apply skill learning across multiple domains.

You should take Chemical in NIT Trichy if:

  1. You are really interested in core chemical processes, research, or looking for a career in critical industries like oil, gas, pharmacy, materials.
  2. You think NIT Trichy may have better connections from the alumni network, better placements or recruitment, or possibly better facilities and building resources.
  3. You seek public sector jobs, core chemical R & D jobs, or want to study abroad before you apply for your first job in core chemical disciplines.

If you have a strong interest in core engineering and also an interdisciplinary inclination toward fields like automation, robotics, or control systems, then Instrumentation and Control in NIT Trichy would be a great field to choose, NIT Trichy is one of the top NITs with good faculty, research exposure and great placements record for niche branches as well.
However, if you have a stronger inclination to become more software, electronics, communication level in the tech field, ECE in NIT Nagpur or MNIT Jaipur would be better options as they provide a wider breadth to careers and also a better mass placements options.

So choose NIT Trichy (ICE) as it is a prestige institute and if you have core engineering interest and decent academics. Also, you can choose ECE (Nagpur/Jaipur) for breadth in tech roles, coding based jobs, flexibility in all sorts of career paths.

I am father of JEE aspirant. My son got 99.4 percentile in JEE main. He will get ECE branch in NIT TRICHY AND IIIT Bangalore. Which one to choose? I can afford financially.

Akansha Sharma 23rd May, 2025

Both NIT Trichy and IIIT Bangalore are excellent, but they have different strengths. NIT Trichy is one of India’s top NITs with a strong reputation, great campus life, and good placements for ECE. IIIT Bangalore is newer but highly focused on IT and electronics, with a great location (Bangalore) and strong industry connections. If your son prefers a structured B.Tech with a full college experience, choose NIT Trichy. If he wants tech exposure and industry-driven learning, IIIT Bangalore is great.

1. Eligibility Criteria:

You must have scored at least 75% marks (65% for SC/ST candidates) in 10+2 exams or must be in the top 20 percentile in the respective board exams.
You must have studied Physics, Mathematics, and one other subject (Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, or a Technical Vocational subject).

2. Entrance Examination:

The main entrance exam for NIT Trichy is JEE Main, which is held by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
You will have to take JEE Main and perform well enough to be considered for subsequent rounds of admission.

hi my score in Jee mains : 83.507498 CRL : 243723 Sc rank : 13382 let me know if i can get NIT TRICHY OR ANY NITS

Mahima Sinha 14th Jul, 2025

Given your JEE Main score of 83.5 (CRL: 243,723; SC rank: 13,382), admission to NIT Trichy is highly improbable, even under the SC category, as the cutoff ranks for this institute tend to be significantly higher. You may want to consider applying to lower-ranked NITs, IIITs, or reputable state engineering colleges through JoSAA counselling. If you would like assistance identifying suitable options, please let me know.

Can a person get a seat in nit trichy with 63 percentile in sc category

SUKRITI GUPTA 22nd Apr, 2025

As JEE Main results fluctuate each year, predicting exact cutoffs for NIT Trichy is tricky. However, looking at past trends can give us an idea. For the SC category, the cutoff percentile generally remains lower compared to the general category.

Based on the JEE Main SC category expected cutoff for 2025, a percentile between 60 to 63 was anticipated. Given you've secured 63 percentile, you might have a chance for certain branches at NIT Trichy. To get a clearer picture, it's essential to consider your actual rank and the specific branch you're aiming for.

Generally, for the SC category, closing ranks for some branches in NIT Trichy have gone beyond what a 63 percentile might fetch. However, lower-ranked branches might still be within reach. Keep an eye on the official JoSAA counseling and cutoff announcements. Your home state quota, if applicable, can also play a significant role in improving your chances. So, while it might be challenging for the most sought-after branches, exploring all options during counseling is advisable.

I hope it helps.
