Under the JEE, in the OBC category you need an average of 74% or higher to join NIT Trichy.  Also you need to score 130+ out of 300 to secure a reasonable chance.  This is based on previous data.

If you get into NIT Trichy, then what we suggest is you learn from your seniors quickly on time allocation for each semester - subject wise, how to understand the credits for each subject and based on that – how to prepare for your exams.  Since it is subjective evaluation, your notion of examinations will be different in such colleges and so one needs to understand how this system works. This will be an ideal way rather than planning ahead before knowing the ground rules in each institution.

NIT trichy cutoff for GATE in mechanical engineering  as per previous year cutoff is for Industrial Safety Engineering is 743-714 and for Thermal Power Engineering  is 784-785 and thus you ave no chances of getting NIT trichy try for lower nits and other good colleges.

There is chance to get an admission through categorical rank/score. you can take specialization in the your graduation branch only. You can't choose other branch specialization.  For general , cutoff starts from 450.

In 2019 the cut off for admission to Welding Engineering in NIT, Trichy was 398 for OBC-NCL and 430 for General catgeory.Cut off for Material Science and Engineering in NIT, Trichy for 417 for OBC-NCL and 449 for General category.You have not mentioned if you come under NCL or CL. If you belong to OBC-CL you may not get seat in NIT, Trichy with GATE score 403.If you belong to OBC-NCL you may get seat in Welding Engineering.This is according to 2019 cut off in 2020 the cut off may increase or decrease.

I will try giving you some points about both:

• In terms of faculty, IIITD fares much better than NIT-T. The research is top notch and comparable to the IITs.
• The alumni network of NIT Trichy is much stronger and wider, which means you will have guidance, and even alumni from your college working at your dream company or pursuing masters in your dream college. This is a very important factor, as it determines the reputation of the institute and how companies/college outside look at it.
• IIITD has a huge locational advantage, it is based in Delhi, a metro city with a large number of company offices. This means more companies visit your campus for placement and internships as their travelling expenses are lower.
• IIITD has a very intensive academic routine, and the overall personality development takes a back seat. There are much more extra-curricular activities and clubs at NIT.

I understand it is a tough choice, both institutes are comparable. You consider the above factors and decide which ones are more important to you.

In 2019, an All India Rank of 1189 was the Opening Rank for NIT Trichy under B.Arch programme and 2468 was the Closing rank. Now this is 2019 data and cut offs change every year depending on various factors no.of Candidates appearing for the exam, no.of seats available, Difficulty of the exam, previous year trends and Candidate's Category. For a seat here, you will need atleast a rank below 2200 which means you will need a score of atleast 325 and above.

In 2019 in round 7 a candidate with general EWS rank 125 from other state secured seat in NIT, Trichy in Computer Science Engineering.A percentile 98 or above will help you secure such rank.But cut off depends on number of candidates appeared, difficulty level, previous year cut off etc.It may increase or decrease.
