Periyar University imparts higher education through three modes: Departments of Study and Research, the affiliated Colleges, and Periyar University Centre for Online and Distance Education (PUCODE). The university offers following online programmes—MBA, MSc Maths, MA History, B.A English and BBA.

The university offers a total of 97 courses at UG, PG and doctoral levels. Some of the courses offered at Periyar University are M.C.A, M.Sc., M.A., M.Ed. etc. Periyar University offers five courses in an online mode.  The eligibility criteria for Periyar University courses will vary from course to course.
