The basic eligibility criterion for pursuing BA Philosophy degree is qualifying 10+2 or equivalent examination in any stream from a recognized board of the country.

Admission to the course is done either on the basis of the marks obtained in the 10+2 examination or on the basis of the marks obtained in any relevant entrance test. For courses like Philosophy hons. the effective percentage is calculated by taking the marks of best four subjects including one language subject. There won't be any extra deduction to change of streams.

Yes, you can pursue BA in Philosophy with 55% in class 12th.  Most of the colleges have same eligibility criteria i.e., the students should have completed 10th and 12th from a recognized board and institute and should have obtained a minimum of 45% at the 10+2 level. However there are some other colleges too where the admission is done on basis of some entrance exams.
