Dear Aspirant.

Dr.B.R. Ambedkar was the chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Indian Constitution. He is also known as the father of the Indian Constitution.

The Constitution is a set of rules and regulations which guide the administration of the country and defines and protects the rights of its citizens as a basis of governance of the ruling over the State. It was influenced from the British Parliamentary system, the American Bill of Rights and the Social Directive Policies of Ireland and many other constitutions in the world, making it the largest constitution as it carries the essence of the Indian values and existence of being sovereign, socialist and secular which is stated in the preamble.

B.R. Ambedkar was the backbone of the constitution. In fact, his birthday which is on 14th of April is celebrated as the Ambedkar Jayanti and there are huge rallies laid out to celebrate him. He was a social reformer. Knowing the plights of the Dalits, being from the Mahar caste of Maharashtra itself, he laid out a constitution which was in the sense equal for all. He faced so much discrimination that he fought against that all his life and dedicated it to the cause of making life better for the so-called lower castes and the oppression they face.

He was awarded the Bharat Ratna for his relentless intellect, empathy and effort to draft the Constitution. He popularly known as 'Babasaheb' And his name 'Bhim' is extensively used in naming places and various other political scenarios. In fact, Ambedkarites shout the slogan 'Jai Bhim to celebrate him. The Indian Government has preserved his birth place and has built many memorial for him.

Hope this helps. All the best!
