According, to 2017 data you should score more then 200 marks in JEE Main to get Mechanical or EEE branch in top NITs under general category other state quota.

not giving any engineering based exam, what i choose after i passed out 12th standard. Please suggest some effective common lines.

You should always choose a stream in which you are interested. So, that you can perform well without getting bore. There are many streams which you can choose apart from engineering which has good scope in the future. You can check below some options and choose according to your interest.
