Hi,
Although both R and Python programming language are beneficial to become a data scientist but it is not necessary to learn R programming language if you have knowledge of Python programming language.
Python is most widely used in this field and the best language to learn if you want to become a data scientist. It is open source and easy to use and will grab you with the most job opportunities.
Whereas, R programming language is also open source but is typically used for statistical computing and graphics and it is more complex to learn as compared to Python.

Hi aspirant,
I will suggest you to keep preparing and hustling for the COMEDK examination. No doubt Vellore institute of technology is a good college, but you would not be getting that sort of returns when you are placed in third category and will have to pay around 4lacs per annum. The level of COMEDK is easy to moderate and if you have your basics covered, it is not that difficult to make into the top colleges. Python is not a very difficult language to learn and will hardly take 3-4 months in your first semester, moreover it will be taught to you from the foundation when the classes start at VIT.
PS- If money is not a big issue, start preparing for your first semester as most of the top college under COMEDK have a similar fee ranging between 3-3.5lacs.
Hey!
You can if that is what you want to, however colleges tend to teach you all that in their syllabus because not many people are aware of these topics. Learning beforehand will only make your concepts clear and will help you during your college years.
You can also search for syllabus of your desired college for a better preview.

Its great to know youre interested in the IT/Software/Analytics Service Sector. What I would suggest you is after B.Sc. in Mathematical Sciences, you must pursue MCA from some of the Best NITs or Top Public or Private Universities having strong Placement Prospects. Especially the NITs, you need to ace the NIMCET Examination followed by securing Admission in MCA, and hence a strong career in the IT/Software/Services Industry.
Other Option could be pursuing a M.Sc./MS in Quantitative Economics, Mathematics & Statistics or Computational Sciences from Eminent Institutes like ISI Kolkata and its branches like ISI Delhi. ISI Kolkata and New Delhi, really have Good Placements. And after M.Sc. or after some years of Work experience post M.Sc., if seriously interested, you may even pursue M.Tech in CS/Mathematics & Computing/ Data Science from some of the Top Institutes in India.
Hey,
