Yes you can change your branch if you can score well in your sem exams have to clear all the exams so that you can change your branch accordingly.

selecting branch is personal choice. Choose branch you have interest in. Do not go for the brand value of college or branch. However placement for CSE is more than any other branch.
mechanical in nitk is better than rvce. i must suggest you to go for nitk as teh college has teh good faculty as well as good placements will be offer to you . all the best have a great future ahead.
