Im confused on which subject should I choose for degree as now I have finished +2. I wanted to clear UPSC. So, Which subject is best for an UPSC aspirant? Is sociology, political science or history is good? which subject is easier for UPSC?

Sakshi Singh 28th Jun, 2022

Hello,

For graduation you can choose any one of them because all three are equally difficult and easy. Sociology is more of facts and society, geography on the other hand is a practical subject. Political science is a prominent subject now.
UPSC provides many options to choose as your optional subject including history, geography, political science, sociology, botany, etc. and it is hard to choose one among them. If you will go by number of candidates qualifying UPSC by taking some famous subjects like political science, anthropology and sociology they are among the highest.

But I would prefer you to choose your graduation subject as your optional. It will help you because you will already be having good hold on that subject. And in case your graduation subject is not provided by UPSC you may choose any subject of your interest and you can also refer to the annual UPSC report which has data of all optional subjects and number of candidates qualifying from that subject.
Please choose your optional wisely because optional has highest weightage in the whole exam.

Is there any placement record for Masters in Sociology?

shivamtrivedi0005 28th Jun, 2022

Hello,

Masters of Sociology: A postgraduate sociology course is the master of arts in sociology. A full and in-depth study of sociology as a discipline is included in the subject of sociology. Social relations, social stratification, social interaction, culture, and other topics are studied in this field.

The course's advantages include:

1. A master's degree in sociology provides a foundation for further study and research in this area, such as a Ph.D. or M.Phil.

2. Candidates can apply for the UGC-NET or JRF test after completing this course. The achievement in these tests makes research and teaching a viable choice.

3. The biggest benefit of taking this course is that it increases your eligibility and chances of passing the Indian Civil Services Examination. We might therefore conclude that a Master of Arts in Sociology might be a wise choice.

I hope this response will be helpful.

Having sociology as a strong subject, is BSW (graduation course) good to do or should I do something else?

Nupur Kothari 18th Jun, 2022

Hi aspirant,

BSW or bachelors in social work is a good course if you want to work on the practical aspects of sociology. It’s a great course to learn about bringing about a change in the society.  The bsw course can also be done as a correspondence or distance course. You also can keep your options open for a BA in sociology that also is a very good course to provide with an in depth knowledge of sociology and it’s theoretical aspects. You can choose between the two and choose the one that fits the best with your interest in sociology. All the best hope this helps!
