Srm placement are pretty good counting upon mass recruitment yes they are able to give 100% placement record. Yes more than 500 companies do visit there and if you are capable enough you are definately going to be placed and at the end mass recruitment is saviour .

SO if you want to get into one of the universities it is mandatory to appear for the exams.
