Option 1: +2
Option 2: -2
Option 3: +1
Option 4: -1
Correct Answer: +1
Solution : The correct option is +1

Let's analyse the conclusions – Conclusion (I): Some engineers are clerks – From the Venn diagram, the circle of clerks is completely inside the circle of engineers.
Question : Comprehension:
Read the following passage and answer the questions.
For birds to survive, they must learn to live with and off humans, and those birds, like crows, sparrows, and mynahs, who do this to perfection, continue to thrive as our cities grow, whereas the purely wild birds, who depend on forests for life, are rapidly disappearing because forests are disappearing. If you have just a bit of garden and perhaps a guava tree, you will be visited by innumerable bulbuls, mynahs, tailor birds, parrots, etc. Or, if you own an old house, you will have to share it with pigeons and sparrows. And, if you have neither a garden nor a rooftop, you will still be visited by the crows.
Where man goes, the crow follows. He has learned to perfect the art of living off of humans. He will, I am sure, be the first bird on the moon, scavenging among the paper bags and cartons left behind by untidy astronauts. Crows favour the densest areas of the human population, and there must be one for every human. Many crows seem to have been humans in their previous lives; they possess all the cunning and sense of self preservation of man. At the same time, there are many humans who have obviously been crows, we haven't lost their thieving instincts.
Watch a crow sidling along the garden wall with an eye at the kitchen door and any attendant humans. He waits in the background till his chance comes, and then he pounces! I have even known a crow to make off with an egg from the breakfast table. The mynah, however, is more of a gentleman. He prefers fruit on the tree to scraps from the kitchen and visits the garden in expectation of handouts. He is quite handsome, too, with his bright orange bill. Although the blue jay is quite capable of making his living in the forest, he seems to show a preference for human haunts. He would rather perch on a telegraph wire because he finds it a better launching pad for his sudden rocket flights and aerial acrobatics!

Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow.
Rajasthan's farmers have been banging plates and lighting fires these days. It is their desperate attempt to scare away the swarms of migratory locusts invading their fields and eating away crops. The pest attack has come as a double blow for farmers already reeling under the impact of the COVID lockdown.
Millions of locusts, covering 1-4 sq km of the skyline, have reached 10 of the state's 33 districts within three weeks of being first spotted on April 30. Last year, yellow locusts entered India from Pakistan in the second half of May. The attack had originated in Yemen, coming all the way to West Asia, Pakistan, and then India, creating havoc in 17 countries en route.
With the harvest nearly over in Rajasthan, the invading population of grasshoppers this May is feeding mainly on sprouting cotton crops sown last month, vegetables, and fodder. State officials, though, fear damage to the young millet and moong dal crops due in July and August if the locusts breed.
Flying in through the Pakistan border near Jaisalmer, the locust swarms have infiltrated as deep as Kishangarh in Ajmer district. Locusts can cover 200–250 km in a day if they get wind support. Presently, the dust storms sweeping parts of Rajasthan are aiding their flight. Officials said the Union Agriculture Ministry's Locusts Warning Organisation (LWO) is in the process of acquiring 60 vehicles with mounted insecticide sprayers from abroad by July. Ten such vehicles were purchased this January.
"Immature pink locusts are very active, which is why they have reached the interiors of Rajasthan [from Pakistan] so quickly," says K.L. Gurjar, deputy director, of LWO. Their metabolism slows down during winters, but in summers, they can fly from 4 am to 8 pm, covering long distances and consuming more crops along the way than mature locusts would. The LWO has put 10 insecticide-spraying vehicles on the job in Rajasthan. The Rajasthan government has provided rented tractors, on which insecticide sprayers are mounted, and also the manpower to man them. The centre-state joint operation has so far cleared a few hundred sq km of fields of the locusts. Preliminary estimates put the loss to crops at a few crore rupees.
State officials say there is an urgent need to contain the pink locusts before they start breeding in the next few weeks. Indiscriminate aerial spraying of insecticides is ill-advised, as this can damage crops as well as affect human settlements.
One of the strategies being considered now is to use fixed-wing aircraft for ultra-low volume spraying of chemicals. The state government may request such aerial sorties from the air force. Drones have limited capabilities as they can carry only about 20 litres of insecticide at a time, making them effective only over small areas.
Question: The main theme of the passage is:
Option 1: the damage done by the locusts
Option 2: measures for dealing with the locusts
Option 3: breeding of locusts
Option 4: invasion of locusts in Rajasthan
Correct Answer: invasion of locusts in Rajasthan
Solution : The correct choice is the fourth option.
The passage primarily discusses the invasion of locusts in Rajasthan and the consequent impact on the farmers, their crops, and the measures taken or considered to address this issue.
Therefore, the correct answer

Question : Comprehension: Read the following passage and answer the question. Another feature of the post-Cold War era is that since the West has become the victor of the East-West ideological rivalry, Western systems and Western influences, in general, have started to dominate the whole world. For example, the United States has visibly enhanced its influence in the Middle East and in the Caucasus since the end of the Cold War. The invasion of Kuwait by Iraq in August 1990 and the following Gulf Crisis, in a way, created an opportunity for the United States to exercise its hegemonic power in the Middle East. In the following years, in the absence of a counterpower, the influence of the United States increased further. With the military operation in Afghanistan and the invasion of Iraq after the September 11, 2001 attacks, the United States perpetuated its dominance in the region. The region of the Caucasus was formerly under the Russian sphere of influence. But the United States managed to enter this energy-rich region with some new allies that used to be part of the Soviet Union, such as Azerbaijan, Ukraine, and Georgia. Although Russia certainly did not want the United States' presence in the region, its ability to prevent it has remained limited. Likewise, NATO expanded to include Eastern Europe, a region that also used to be under Soviet influence. Russia, in the beginning, tried to resist NATO expansion, posing several threats, including creating a counter defence organisation. But it was eventually convinced by the project of "partnership for peace," through which it preserved many of its privileges in Eastern European countries.

Option 2: Ukraine
Option 3: Iraq
Option 4: Azerbaijan
Correct Answer: Iraq
Solution : The third option is the correct choice.
