iam msc applied statistics student do for net apply which subject preference i can choose

Sankalp Agrawal 3rd Nov, 2025

Hello,

If you are doing MSc in Applied Statistics, the most suitable subject for UGC NET is Statistics. It closely matches your syllabus and gives you the best chance to score well.

If your focus is more on programming, data analytics, or computational modeling, you can also consider Computer Science and Applications.
But overall, Statistics is the ideal and most preferred choice.

Hope you understand.

I secured 198th rank in MSC STATISTICS CPGET2025. Is it a good rank to get admission in OU ?

Jishan Mondal 20th Sep, 2025

Congratulations on securing the 198th rank in CPGET 2025 for M.Sc. Statistics.

Whether this is a good rank for admission into the Osmania University (OU) main campus depends almost entirely on your reservation category. Based on the previous years' cut-off data, here is a detailed analysis of your chances.

Previous Year's Cut-off Ranks for M.Sc. Statistics at Osmania University

To understand where your rank of 198 stands, let's look at the closing ranks from the last admission cycle for various categories at the OU College of Science:

  • OC (Open Category): 67
  • EWS (Economically Weaker Section): 98
  • BC-A (Backward Class - A): 120
  • BC-B (Backward Class - B): 92
  • BC-D (Backward Class - D): 107
  • SC (Scheduled Caste): 247
  • ST (Scheduled Tribe): 269

Analysis of Your Rank (198)

  • If you belong to the SC or ST category: Your rank of 198 gives you a very strong chance of securing a seat at Osmania University. Your rank is well below the closing ranks for both SC (247) and ST (269) from the previous year.
  • If you belong to the General (OC), EWS, or BC categories: Based on the previous year's data, a rank of 198 is unlikely to get you a seat in the M.Sc. Statistics program at the main OU campus. The cut-offs for these categories are significantly lower, closing at or below the 120 rank mark.

Conclusion and Advice:

You should definitely participate in the CPGET web counseling process. While cut-offs can vary slightly each year, your eligibility for a seat at Osmania University is highly dependent on your category. If you are an SC or ST candidate, your prospects are excellent. If not, you may want to consider other universities or affiliated colleges where the cut-off ranks might be higher.

Hello! Yes, you can pursue a BSc in Computer Science after completing 2nd PUC with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Statistics. Most universities and colleges require Mathematics as a compulsory subject for BSc Computer Science admissions. Since you have Mathematics, you are eligible. However, some institutions may also consider your overall performance or require a minimum percentage in PUC. It is advisable to check the specific eligibility criteria of the college or university you wish to apply to so that you can plan accordingly.
