Speaking of both the institues, both are good in their own standards. But since you have asked the difference I'll compare it point by point. It is my analysis so I will try to represent each institute in their own terms, good or bad.

1) Both the universities

The thapar University is affiliated to jee mains that it gives admission in it Btech program on the basis of jee main score of the candidate hence the college doesn't have any management quota seats. And yes there are some seats reserved for the students belonging to the states, their

For Thapar University 12th mark requirement is 65, and if you did your 12th from any school in punjab you will easily get chemical in first list of online counselling based on jee mains out state can be a boundary line case as per my understanding

With this rank you could get admission in the college but you may have to compromise with the choice of your subject. You can't get top core branches like cse, ece in the University as their cutoffs are below 35k. So I would suggest you either settle for lower branches
