It depends you obviously know that you are not getting good colleges and hence you are going for private college btech. If you do btech from a college in your city then you will be near your home that in itself is an advantage moreover since you are not getting

You can go for mechanical engineering at Thapar but i will suggest you to take the CSE branch if you want to enter into the private firm after your BTech because most of the job opportunities you get after your BTech from CSE branch are in private sector.
