Hello Sanjay,

High school board has no bearing when it comes to USMLE eligibility.

The maximum attempts allowed for each step of USMLE is 6.

But the caveat here is, if you qualify for any step USMLE once, you cannot reappear for the exam again for the next 7 years

If someone fails in the first attempt of USMLE Step 1, does he/she have to pay the exam fees for subsequent attempts also?

Dear Venu, the validity of the exam fees for USMLE Step1 is limited to that particular exam only. It cannot be extended until subsequent attempts or it is not single fees until you pass. So you have to pay the fees separately every time you want to appear for USMLE
