As to become an IAS officer you must clear upsc( union public service commission) civil services exam.

UPSC civil services exam is conducted every year and those who qualify for the exam get selected for various posts like IAS, IFS, IPS. So collector is an old name to DM and IAS after getting promotions they become DM and not directly join as DM.

For becoming an IAS officer there is no restriction of degree choice , you can choose any degree of your own choice but remember one thing that is all the degrees you choose must be a graduation degree eg - BA , BSc , BTech , MBBS etc

Hi Raghav ! UPSC has got a vast syllabus ,but basics are always important . I would advise you to study sincerely whatever is there in course . But don't sweat it. Just cover the syllabus in your course properly.
