I am GEM with 91% in 10th, 89.60% in 12th and 69.55% in Graduation (BE). Passed CFA Level 1. 8 months of work-ex. How much should I get in CAT/XAT/GMAT/NMAT to get into one of the top 25 b-school?

Papiya Mazumder 27th Sep, 2019

Hello,

As per your requirement, i would say that as mentioned above your educational details, you need to be at your very best in each step.

First stage is CAT

In which if you are a general candidate you will have to get atleast 95.5(Cutoff changes every year) to get call from New and Baby IIM.

Coming to Old IIM(BLACKI) many things are considered

10,12, Graduation score .

Work experience.

Gender ( For female Candidates)/Academic diversity (For Non Engg)

Weightage given to above mentioned criteria is different in every college, you can visit the college website to get the details.

So having work experience is always an advantage but like I said the weightage varies.

Final stage.

WAT/PI Stage

The weightage for WAT/PI is usually high in Old IIM close to 50%.

Personal Interview is the one that either make it or break it.

So PI usually decides whether you will get selected or not.

For exact details you can visit the IIM website and check the criteria which will have all the details.

Good luck

I have completed my graduation at 49% and i want to do MBA .What should I do ? I know that there are exams like XAT and MAT that do not consider percentage but will i have problem because of my percentage in getting admission after giving these exams?

gehnachawlagac 17th Sep, 2019

Hello

If you can get above 95 percentile in CAT, you can surely get into one of the top 15–20 b-schools of the country.

Many b-schools shortlist based on the CAT score. (IIM A & IIM C are 2 of them. The new IIM’s ironically consider all marks & percentages 10th, 12th & bachelors).

You can give XAT exam as it doesn't keep so much boundations regarding percentage but still most of the colleges which give admissions on the basis of XAT score also keeps a min required percentage as to be 50% in 10th 12th and graduation for general/OBC category and 45% for SC/ST category.

Colleges which you will get mostly won't be of good reputation and getting a MBA degree might not be worth it. But still if you are really interested in pursuing MBA degree then give XAT exam get a very high percentile then you might have a chance of ending up in an average college.

thankyou, I hope it helps, feel free to approach for further queries.

My Graduation Score is 48-49% in BBA Finance. If I score good marks in mat or xat, is there any possibility to get good b school? Please suggest me, Im so confused right now.

pdwords Student Expert 13th Sep, 2019

Hello,

First of all, there's no point in dwelling about your past scores, because you cannot change it.

Secondly, if you have decided for once and all , to go ahead with your higher studies, then focus on XAT and MAT, for that matter, since unlike CAT, these exams do not have set any eligibility criteria for appearing in their exams. Your determination need to be strong for this, because this is only what will sail you through all this. Moreover, there are many instances, when people have done extremely well in not just in entrance exams, or business school, even professional career for that matter in  spite of not so good marks in past academics, but does it mean, it all comes easy, absolutely not. You'll have to work hard and focus on what's important right now, that your entrance test, Follow your syllabus, practice previous year papers and sample papers, you can judge yourself, how you're faring, moreover this will also gain your confidence in the time to give exams.

All the best!
