Hello, hope you doing well!
Most of the students pursue MBA these days irrespective of which stream they are from. In fact a large number of Engineers do Executive MBA. So, it really doesn't matter which stream you are from. First things first you are eligible to pursue MBA in Finance.
Second thing, you mentioned you want to pursue MBA in Finance. If you want something you are already interested into it. Thus, learning something completely out of your stream will be alright for you.
Finally, when you go for MBA in Finance you will find yourself in a place where there's too much competition because most of the students are for commerce background. For this you need to prepare yourself before you get into the course.
By preparing for Finance subject beforehand, you can actually get an idea of your own capabilities. Sometimes we wish to do something because it seems new to us but then we realize its not in our capacity. So, it is very important you are totally sure about it before starting it only as being from Science stream you have never studied finance.
I would suggest just go through the detailed syllabus of MBA Finance first. Read the business section of newspapers. Just surround yourself with everything and everyone that's related to Finance. If you have friends from commerce background, talk to them. Watch videos on subjects that you will be studying in MBA Finance.
Once you are done with all this and are sure about this that you really want to pursue MBA Finance, start with your preparations for CAT. Because to get into IIMs you need to get a really really good percentile. Even your 10th, 12th boards and graduation percentage matters too for being selected into an IIM.
There won't be any problem for you to pursue MBA Finance if you really want to do it. Your stream has got nothing to do with it but your interest has got to do a lot to do with it.
For more details, you can check with this article.
MBA Finance
See it toatally depends upon your choice and interest that which stream is bettee because there are lot and each of them is unique whether it be marketing, hr, execution, pr etc.
You wanted to do mba from iim so you nees to give a competetive exam called CAT.
