10th 8.8 cgpa,12th 81.2% and b.tech 7.9 cgpa, currently working now(6 months), what percentile should i get to get into top IIM's. are my grades good enough to get into IIM'S. what are the possible IIM'S i can get into with my academic record?
Hi Naresh,
The academic record that you mentioned is really good. You have shown consistency and dedication over the years and you really have dodged a question which most of the candidates face(including me) where interviewer asks about your inconsistency.
Now coming to your question, though you have a good academic record but it will matter a little when it will come to your admission into the IIMs as most of the people applying their will be coming from IITs and NITs and other good colleges and their academic records are equally sound. You have work experience which will fetch you some additional points. But for qualifying into the GD/PI processes you have to achieve the required percentile. I am giving you the required CAT cut-off for the IIMs and other tier-1 B-Schools.
Colleges |
Cutoffs |
IIM Ahmedabad |
99+ |
IIM Bangalore |
99+ |
IIM Calcutta |
99+ |
IIM Lucknow |
98+ |
IIM Kozhikode |
98+ |
IIM Indore |
98+ |
FMS, Delhi |
98+ |
SPJAIN, Mumbai |
97+ |
JBIMS, Mumbai |
97+ |
SIMSREE |
98+ |
IIT Bombay |
98+ |
IIT Delhi |
97+ |
Though these are rough cut-offs and are prepared keeping in mind the trends that are shown over the years, but there will be sectional cut-offs too which will definitely filter out candidates to a great extent. But these sectional cut-offs are only for IIMs not for other B-Schools.
Apart from CAT, there are other exams which will fetch you an entry into other Tier-1 B-Schools. XAT will give you an entry into XLRI, whereas SNAP will provide you an opportunity for SIBM-Pune and SCMHRD-Pune. However, you have to score at-least more that 92 Percentile in XAT and 97+ percentile in SNAP to get into the respective good B-Schools.
Another thing that you need to keep in mind is that, besides getting the required percentile, you have to be prepared with Group Discussions and Personal Interviews as they will carry a lot of weightage in your selection in any of the B-Schools you choose.
However, you have to choose for yourself and check which institute will suit you depending upon the specialisation you want to work in. Based upon that give the exam, score the required percentile and give your best shot in the GD/PI process.
I hope I am able to solve your query. All the best!!!
Hi Naresh,
You have secured a good academic record, but this is not enought you have to secured more than 99.5+ percentile, then you will be definitrly get a call for the top 3 IIMS, that is IIM Calcutta, IIM Bangalore and IIM Ahmedabad.
After the declaration of the result the merit list will be made to call the candidate for the interview round. The merit list comprises of your CAT percentile, your graduation marks, your work experience, your 10th and 12th marks. Also, if you have secured more than 95+ percentile, then you get call from the others IIM for interview and Written Aptitude test. As you have If you have score above 98+ percentile i.e IIMS ,you will have a good probability of getting calls from old IIMs like IIM Lucknow, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Indore, IIM Shillong.
Once you get call from IIM, you have to go through the WAT exam and interview process. On clearing both an another merit list will be prepared, which will select you to get enter IIM.
