A cyclist moves from point X point y 1000 m away on a straight road in 4 minute 30 second after reaching Y she turns around and cycle back 400 m to point Z in 2min what are her average speed and velocties cycling from X to Y from X to Z through Y?
Hello,
For motion from X to Y
Distance covered= 1000 m
Displacement= 1000 m
Time taken - 4 min 30 sec = 4*60+30 = 270 s
Average speed = Distance covered/ Time taken = 1000/270 = 3.7 m s^-1
Average velocity = Displacement covered/ Time taken= 1000/270= 3.7 m s^ -1
For motion X to Y to Z
Distance covered = 1000+400= 1400m
Displacement covered= XY - YZ = 1000-400 = 600m
Time taken = 4.50+2 = 6.50 min = 390 s
Average speed = Distance/ Time = 1400/390= 3.6 ms^-1
Average velocity = Displacement/ Time = 600/390= 1.5 ms^-1
Hope it helps
