The job of an aircraft maintenance engineer is to look after the maintenance, repair, overhaul and modification work of an aircraft. Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) may make repairs, troubleshoot problem, conduct inspections and make upgrades to aircrafts. Before pilot takes off, AME has to check the aircraft properly and sign the certificate so that the flight can takeoff.
To be an AME, you should have practical knowledge along with the necessary theoretical expertise. You need to have the requisite license from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) who conducts examinations and also issues Basic Maintenance Engineer's Certificate (BAMEC) as well as Aircraft Maintenance Engineer's Licence to those candidates who pass the applicable examinations and meet all other eligibility requirements.
