In civil engineering it is very difficult to get place from the campus because a very few companies visit the campus and even in the prestigious Institute such as IIT civil engineers does not get jobs in the core sector however if you are interested in programming then you can I start preparing for it 5 to 6 months prior to the placement is any company visits which is open to all branch then you may get blood from the campus.

If you are interested in core sector jobs in after completing the engineering you can apply on off campusbasis of companies hire freshers then you may get a job apart from that there is a good scope in the government jobs you can become officer by qualifying Indian Engineering services it is a grade A officer just like a collector also you can join many public sector companies by appearing in GATE.
