Hello Sahil,
To begin with, dropping one year is never a great idea as there are very few anecdotal evidence to support the performance of a candidate gets better in the next year. If anything, the results tends to get worse in the drop year. There are many reason why this happens:
- While the intention levels are very high at the start, it tends to die off quickly
- Also, as a candidate's peer group moves ahead in their academic career, the drop candidate starts having guilty pangs and soon starts to question his or her decision. In turn it affects preparation
- Having too much time at one's disposal is also not always a great idea. Posptponing things is common
-
Another trouble is as the candidate sits preparing at home, the candidate is no longer in touch with teachers and peer group from whom to take advice
In fact there are many more reasons why taking a drop is not advisable. But if you are still hell bent on taking a drop year, you must be very focused and stay the course. And of course, 1 year is sufficient time if you prepare with dedication.
Best.
