among NITs and IIITs which should be more preferable

The NIT and IIIT are the indias prestigious institutes so ,you can’t directly justify one as better than another. Both the group of institutions have their own pros(and some cons too).

Before we compare both of them, lets consider these following facts about them.

NITs

• All the NITs are centrally funded government colleges.
• They offer degrees in almost all the fields of engineering, rather than focusing on one or two fields.
• They are usually larger in area and have larger no. of students that IIITs, all because the large no. of branches they provide.
• Have a slightly higher brand value in general society, as not a lot of people know about IIITs. (But that is not applicable in the professional industry)
• 50% state quota is applicable in the NIT colleges.
• Are declared as Institute of National Importance.
• College culture is quite vibrant here due to large student mass.

IIITs

Now here we have 2 types of IIITs. One which are government and their name starts with “Indian”. And some partially government funded.

• All the IIITs are primarily focused on IT based courses(CS, IT, ECE, AI).The major difference between the government and private institutes are the Fee Differences and Reservation quotas.
• The government ones are centrally funded(some fully, and other partially(IIITs built under PPP mode)).
• They offer degrees only in IT related branches, as the name suggests.
• They are usually smaller in Area and have lower no. of students due to the fact that they normally have only 2–4 branches.
• Their brand value in the eyes of society may be a bit less but in the Tech Industry these institutes are highly reputed.
• There is no State quota here in any of the IIITs.
• They have also been given the status of Institute of National Importance.
• Coding and development culture is quite vibrant here since the whole college are IT focused.

Now, as you know the major differences, you can choose the one that fits your need.

If you are a person for whom college life is most important, go for NITs.

If you just want to get a high package job, both the colleges will work for you.

If you are a person who is interested in computers, IIITs are your ideal college.

And if you want to pursue government jobs further in life, its better to go for core branches such as Mechanical, Electrical or Civil, the IIITs are not even in your option, go for NITs.(Or preferably any lower branch in IITs if you can get, the IIT Tag will help you a lot in your interviews).

So this was my opinion about NITs and IIITs. Both are amazing colleges in their own way. Its upon you which college you choose for your own.
