an athlete running in a straight track covers a distance of 10m in 3rd second and 14m in 5th second. Find out the distance covered by him in 9th second
Distance covered in nth second is given by:
S= u + (2n-1) (a/2) , where the letters have their usual meanings
Given: athlete runs 10 m in 3rd second, using this information we get,
10=u + 5(a/2)............eq.1
Then using the next information, I.e athlete runs 14 m in 5th second we have,
14= u + 9(a/2)........eq.2
Solving 1 and 2 we get:
a=2 m/s^2
u=5 m/s
Finally, distance covered in 9th second is:
5 + (2/2)(2*9-1)=22m
