Best of is taken in subject wise or total in jee mains 2 attempts

Best of the two final scores that is the total scores will be calculated for the rank calculation and not the subject wise.if someone scores exactly same in both attempts that score will be considered for the rank calculation.
Individual best of the subject will not be considered the overall best score of the two attempt will be considered for the rank calculation
