1. There are three internals every semester scored out of 30 and best of two is taken. So slog before the exams, score as much as you can as this also counts towards your final grade point. Plus, it is an advantage if you do well in the first two, less stress.
2. Assignments, punctuality is the key. You are likely to lose out on marks if you don't! And nothing sucks more than an easy assignment submitted late, screwing up your final grade.
3. Pay attention to the important subjects, it will come in handy in your final year during the placements. At the end of the day there is no replacement for strong technical knowledge.
4. Also, I loved to study in the ESB library, the ambience gets you to work efficiently, so there's that.

Extra-curricular

1. I cannnot begin to tell you how lucky you are to be in this college as it has the best collaborative and creative environment.
2. You should most DEFINITELY join a club of your interest, volunteer during fests and spend time just putting yourself out there. You may have to stay back but trust me it is worth it.
3. It is okay to not know what exactly you want to do, but I sincerely urge you to attend the first meetings/auditions etc. There is just so much talent to learn from, dip your fingers in all the pots. I was in the dance team and I can tell you that it has made a world of difference and it is one of the best things that happened to me.
4. Network, talk to people. If you are a hostelite, nothing like it use your time wisely in college and not cooped up behind your laptop watching some sitcom in the room. Don't be lazy!
5. Do things, you are not getting the luxury of this time again, so seize the day!

BMSCE is better for IEM.

It's a decent school for getting put and week by week 5 to 6 organizations approach with great bundles. The standards of a good engineering college are first and foremost set by the students who secure admission to the college. Initially, PESIT used to take admission from CET and Comedk attracting the best minds from Karnataka and good students from other parts of India as well. I have seen my classmates give up their CET ranks which would have secured them Computer Science in either BMS or MS Ramaiah, but chose to go ahead with Computer Science admit in PES through their Comedk ranks which would require them to shell out an additional 1 lac a year. Yes, such was the brand of PES. It was regularly ranked under top 40 if not top 30 in India and was on par with the top private universities in India atleast in CS.

The highest package is 14 lakhs in computer engineering and ECE streams. Juniors got to see how the interview happens. TCS is the company which took most of the students.

The location is such that there is not much scope to be distracted and you can focus on your studies. However, if your interest is in research then its up to you to put an effort and get those papers published.

ENTRANCE PREVIEW

I took the Karnataka CET entrance test, I got a rank of 3679 and was sure about the course i wanted to take, i.e Electronics and Communication Engineering. I was looking at the best college that I could get into with this rank. Now BMSIT has placements alongside of BMSCE, so that was one of the major reasons why I chose this college. With a fairly good rank, if you want a good course (ECE which is usually quite hard to get in), and a college with a good reputation ( which has a major role to play during placements) this is a good place to go to.

FEE STRUCTURE AND FACILITIES

The fee structure depends on the entrance exam you took to get in, the fee structure is different for CET, COMEDK. The CET fees is definitely affordable. The COMEDK fee would work out to be a bit expensive but thats the case with most COMEDK fees. any university with a comedk seat would be around the same range.

PLACEMENT WING

Some of the companies that came to our campus were Tata Elexsi, Delphi Automotive, Bosch, Oracle Financial solutions, NTT data FA insurance systems, etc. The packages being offered were in the range of 3.5lakhs per annum. Some companies offered more (like delphi offered 5lpa). But the average was 3.5lpa. This was when I was graduating, but I've heard there are better placements as of today.

HOSTEL FACILITIES

I did not stay in the hostel, but I have had an opportunity to visit and the facilities are definitely good enough. However I havent heard very good things about the mess food. Had an opportunity to eat there once and it wasn't so great. I've also heard the boys hostel is pretty strict. And it is right next to the campus, so you dont have to worry about travelling.

REMARKS

The alumni network is kept well informed and also have a platform for keeping in touch. The students are helpful and you can get in touch with the alumni association very easily.

FACULTY

The faculty is usually very supportive and for the courses which I took (Analog Electronic Circuits, Microprocessors, Digital Signal Processing, Microcontrollers) there is plenty of opportunity for research. Many faculty are also pursuing their Phd and hence there are many opportunities to contribute and support their research. All the faculty are qualified to teach well. Its only upto you how you want to manage your time to get the best outcome.

CAMPUS LIFE

The gender ratio is pretty normal, 4:1 (boy: girl). There are no student parties as such, except the freshers party which is organized by the seniors in that batch. There are quite a few robotics and other workshops conducted and there is a lot of diversity and tolerance. Everyone is treated equally well and I never saw any problem in this domain.

EXAM STRUCTURE

The labs and courses were quite frequent and mostly hectic. But once yours done with classes its mostly chilled out. You only have to study and cram before the exams/ tests. The tests were monthly, i.e internals so if you prepared for them you were mostly all caught up for the exams.

COURSE CURRICULUM OVERVIEW

Now BMSIT comes under the VTU curriculum. The focus is usually on understanding concepts clearly, but as with all other universities it is usually up to you to decide how much effort you want to put into research. The course structure is mostly focused on a good balance between labs and classes. I personally found the VTU curriculum very hectic but if you go out of your way to put an effort for research you should be good.

No, BMSIT does not provide internship and there's no part of the course where you are able to do an internship along side your course as well. I never did an internship, we have no semester dedicated for this purpose as some other universities have.

We had one major college fest, Utsaha, and this would be quite big. Other than our college fest, we had some minor department fests. A lot of talks were organized in college though so you'd get an opportunity to attend a lot of seminars and workshops.

It might look little old. But, it is well maintained. Every lab is well equipped and the lab curriculum is as good as it is in any IITs Or NITs. There are four, year-wise boys’ hostels inside the campus and two, girls-hotels outside the campus :p. There are two tennis courts, one standard Basketball hall, one big sports complex (with satisfactory amenities for ex-a badminton court, 5 table tennis area, one indoor game arena). Besides, it has two grounds (both of them installed with goal posts and one of them has a cricket pitch too). Every department is well constructed and all of them have modern AV hall. The campus also has one mini canteen (for snacks) and one 800–900 heads one-time occupancy food court. They serve really healthy food if not tasty (because taste is very personal). Every hostel has its own dining area and mess (except 3rd-year hostel, because 3rd and 4th year have their food in 4th-year mess, this helps to exchange knowledge with seniors). The campus has an amphitheatre, two workshops buildings, one big parking area and a Kotak Mahindra Bank.The campus has an administrative block and a floor dedicated to placement cell.Important ConstituentsFaculties: The college has okayish faculties. Well, this is the case in most of the engineering colleges in India. Though, it does have few outstanding faculties in every department. But, the faculties are little cold when it comes to student-teacher interaction. You may find at least one VIRUS in every department (So, there are a dozen of them :p)Students: The most pivotal constituents of the college. Let’s, talk about the selection procedure of these students. One can get into the college either byKCET (Karnataka common entrance test): Only the residence of Karnataka can take up this test. RV is definitely on the top priority for the students taking up the test. The cut off is very high for RV through this. 50% of college seats are filled up through KCET. The college fee for the students through KCET is very less ₹24k–50k per year.COMED-k (Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka) This Exam is at all India level. And obviously, RV is the first choice. The cut off here is too high too. The student pays a yearly college fee of around 1.6lpa (huge difference with respect to KCET, for an all India exam competition). 38% seats of the college are filled up through this (Management Quota): Do I need to say anything about this. Most of the students who are selected through the competitive exams are very good students. That doesn’t mean that all students through MQ are bad. The temperament of a student in college plays a very important role. Generally, the students are competitive, shy and little boring. They have their own sets of values. There are many clubs for the students to showcase their talents, be it racing car clubs for ex. Ashwa(they represent India at many racing competitions across the globe and have their own niché )or debating club or quizzing club or e-cell(one of the best e-cell clubs in India) or theatre club-CARV( one of the best student theatre clubs in India); you name it and they have it. If you don’t have a club to showcase your talent, then finding one is very easy too. The seniors are very helpful and, sometimes, little naggy for their juniors.There are many Students who drink and smoke (well, Bangalore pub culture is to be blamed for the same). But, that doesn’t imply that those who drink, compromise with their academics or vice-versa. The campus has a curfew time (not to stay in the campus for girls post 6 pm and not to come into the campus for boys post 10:00 pm). The students organise their college fest -8th mile, every year, through sponsors. The College administration is a little cold for the fest. But, they are really very helpful and cooperative if the students have formed their committee to organise the fest. The college doesn’t provide money for the fest every year. But, getting sponsors for the same is fun and is a learning cusp for the students, besides, to work in a team. Eventually, the students pool 35–45lacs money to organise the fest. The fest is one of the bests in India. The students who reside in the hostel have best four years of their life. And they eventually end up having an eternal friendship. Every social construct has few anti-social elements and so does RV but, let’s ignore them because they are a few.Non- Teaching Staff: They are helpful and at times are very irritating. Try to be their friends and you will not face any problem.Placements: The placement may be divided into two- 1)CSc::ECE::EEE 2) other departments. (This is how it is in any other colleges too.) The avg package in CSc and ECE is 10lpa( highest 30 lpa) and that in EEE is 8–9lpa (highest 16 lpa). Many elite MNCs hit the campus ex-Google, Microsoft, Walmart, Cisco, Qualcomm, Infosys( offered 16lpa; not for mass recruitment), SAP, JP Morgan Chase &Co., Morgan Stanley, Caterpillar, BookMyShow, BEL, Mercedes, etc. There were 150+ recruiters. The other departments’ students manage to get either 6 digit package (few got 7 digit packages too ex Tata steels(11lpa)) or most of them pursue higher education. And they have very great future after their further studies.RV college has only domestic placements. So, please accept the fact that 30lpa domestic placement is good enough, I would say it’s great.I hope my first line is justified by my explanation. Every college has some scope of improvement, so doesBMSCE But, tagging it as just another “private college” is definitely an understatement.
