Basically you are asking for a searching algorithm, so actually, it is very basic and standard algorithm. There are a lot of standard algorithms invented over the years such as Linear search, Binary search, Interpolation search and so on. Each of them has their own advantage and disadvantages in terms of time and space complexities so depending upon your requirement you can select any one of those standard algorithms and implement it using any programming language you know.
