No, with 40 marks in GATE you are not eligible to take admission in top colleges . The candidate must have scored a minimum of 60 marks in GATE to take admission in good colleges

Yes, there are plenty opportunities waiting for you.. Although u have less opportunities for getting a seat in top IITs, I you still have the chances to get a seat in top NITs. All you have to do is to be patient and calm and complete your counseling by choosing options wisely.
