NDA (National Defence Academy) is conducted for the admission of candidates to Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), Air Force Academy (AFA). This exam is conducted twice a year for the candidates who are appearing or have passed class 12 exam. The age limit prescribed by UPSC is 16. 5 to 19. 5 years of age.
The selection of the candidates is done on the basis of written exam followed by SSB Interview. NDA written exam comprises two subjects – Mathematics and General Ability Test (GAT). Each paper is conducted for 2 ½ hours duration. The total allotted for the written examination is 900. Candidates qualifying the written examination are selected to appear for SSB Interview. SSB Interview will be conducted for a total of 900 marks.

NDA examination is cconducted by UPSC twice a year (usually in April & September). Candidates who have passed class 12th or are appearing in class 12th can fill forms & give the examination. The exam consists of two papers namely MATHEMATICS of 300 marks & GENERAL ABILITY TEST(GAT) of 600 marks & each of 150 minutes. Mathematics exam consists of questions pf mathematics till the class 12th level ,GAT exam consists of questions of ENGLISH, GK, & GS.
Candidates applied for AIRFORCE & NAVY should have passed class 12th with physics & mathematics as main subjects, however for army branch all stream candidates can apply.
After clearing the written examination, qualified candidates are called for SSB interview from the respective first choice of 3 forces. Those who are recommended from the SSB are gone through medical examination or check up.
Those who clear all the three stages & have name in MERIT LIST are called for a 3 year course to NDA or at INDIAN NAVAL ACADEMY ( for some NAVY candidates) .
After a 3 years basic training at NDA, ARMY cadets are sent to INDIAN MILITARY ACADEMY (IMA), AIR FORCE cadets to AIR FORCE ACADEMY (AFA) & NAVY cadets of NDA to INDIAN NAVAL ACADEMY (INA) for final stage training.
And later these cadets become officers in their respective forces & serve nation.
