The answer to your question is a bit difficult to answer because getting a score of 96 percentile in JEE Mains is not everyone's cup of tea.
Considering that you are a decent student even then to get an overall score of 96 percentile you will have to get a min of 99/99+ percentile in chemistry and then assuming that you have basic knowledge (CBSE Standard) in Physics and Maths and you can get a score of 90/90+ in both Maths/Physics, only then you will be able to get a overall score of 96 percentile.
So, if you are good at chemistry then yes do try to get the max percentile in chemistry but thinking that only chemistry would do the job for you, that's not gonna happen, focus on Maths and Physics too.
