Yes this is one of the common tactics that people undergo when they cannot qualify the top twenty percentile rule for admission in IITs/NITs/IIITs and GFTIs.

I guess NIOS is basically used for this purpose more than it is used for home schooled people. So go for this option and score well in your exams.
