Dear Aspirant,
As you know that the maximum number of attempts to appear for JEE Main is six. Earlier the number of attempts to write JEE Main was three but now as JEE Main is conducted twice in a year so you can write JEE Main exam six times in three consecutive years.
Yes if you get any low NIT or GFTI and want to appear for JEE Main again while doing your first year you can do it. You can prepare for your JEE main simultaneously with your first year when you get better NIT or IIT after clearing your JEE Advance then you can take admission in your first year in that particular NIT or IIT.
