Can non it background students do mba in it.?
Dear aayush,
The answer to your question is Yes and No, it depends on the institute chosen. For example, if you want to pursue MBA (Information Technology) from C-DAC, Noida and you are a non-IT background student then you should be BE/BTech graduate. Admission to this programme is given by the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by GGSIP University.
These are the eligibility criteria for C-DAC’s MBA (IT) programme:
B.E./ B.Tech with minimum of 60% marks
M.Sc(CS), M.Sc(IT), M.Sc(Electronics) with minimum of 60% marks
MCA with minimum of 60% mark
Symbiosis Centre for Information Technology, Pune offers MBA (Information Technology Business Management ) to any graduate with minimum 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC/ST). They are eligible to appear in Symbiosis National Aptitude (SNAP) Test, qualifying test for tak ing admission in its MBA (I TBM ).
Majority of the institutes don’t discriminate on the basis of whether you have IT background or not but if you do have that IT tag it’ll not only be easier for you to complete the course but also you’ll enjoy an added advantage over other competitors when it comes to getting placed.
Good Luck!
There is no restriction for doing MBA in any stream. It all depends on your interest in which stream you want to do MBA.
If you are a non IT background student then also you can pursue MBA in IT but I would like to tell you that if you don't have at all knowledge about IT so it will be difficult for you to cope up.with studies because basic knowledge is must for doing MBA. You will find yourself in problem if you don't know how the IT industry works.
I am currently studying in IIM Kozhikode 2nd year and with my experience I would also like to tell you that IT companies mostly look to pick up candidates who have experience in IT industry. IT companies mostly come in the lateral placements where only the students with around 2 years work experience students can sit.
So in short you can definitely pursue MBA in IT with non IT background but you need to be prepared for the difficulties that you are going to face.
All the best!
