It totally depends on which medical course you are pursuing but for research in chemistry you need to have basic degree like Bsc,MSc in chemistry. Then you can go in research field.or you can pursue chemical engineering.

You can be a medical scientist also if you are pursuing medical degree as you can research and still get a high paying job.
