Can you give next year improvement exam in just 1 or 2 subject and in which you have already appeared for improvement in July. Is it allowed to give improvement in July as well as next year boards exam?
CBSE's current guidance says that a Class XII student can improve performance in one subject in the July supplementary/improvement examination. For improvement in more subjects, the candidate can appear in the next year's main examination according to the applicable scheme.
CBSE's examination bye-laws also state that a passed candidate can reappear for improvement in one or more subjects in the main examination of the succeeding year.
So, if you:
2026 Main Board -> July 2026 improvement in 1 subject -> 2027 main examination
you can generally use the 2027 improvement opportunity for additional subjects, provided you meet the eligibility conditions for the succeeding year's improvement examination.
However, there is an important distinction:
Do not assume that you automatically get another attempt in the exact same subject simply because you appeared for it in July.
CBSE's bye-laws describe improvement as a limited opportunity, so the precise treatment of the same subject after July improvement should be checked against the 2027 private-candidate/improvement notification when CBSE releases it.
