No, giving clat is not a compulsion. Different colleges have their own law examination to get into that particular college. So if you are fixed on the college you want you could apply for the particular one. You can also apply for exams like AILET and LSAT. The syllabus is pretty much the same for all the examinations but the time vs questions ratio and number of questions in each section vary.
