Strength is the measure of stress that a material can handle before it breaks or fracture down. Whereas, toughness refers to the measure of energy we require to fracture or break a particular material that contains a crack. Hardness, in scientific terms is the ability to resist deformation. So you see, all are inter related terms but mean different.
