Question : Direction: The following table shows the production of food grains (in million tonnes) in a state for the period 1999-2000 to 2003-2004. Read the table and answer the question.
Production (in million tonnes) | ||||
Year | Wheat | Rice | Barley | Other cereals |
1999-2000 | 680 | 270 | 250 | 450 |
2000-2001 | 800 | 420 | 440 | 300 |
2001-2002 | 680 | 350 | 320 | 460 |
2002-2003 | 720 | 400 | 380 | 500 |
2003-2004 | 820 | 560 | 410 | 690 |
During the period 1999-2000 to 2003-2004, $x$ percentage of the total production was of wheat. The value of $x$ is about:
Option 1: 12.6%
Option 2: 37.4%
Option 3: 37.8%
Option 4: 20.2%
Correct Answer: 37.4%
Solution :
According to the given table:
Wheat = 680 + 800 + 680 + 720 + 820 = 3700 million tonnes
Rice = 270 + 420 + 350 + 400 + 560 = 2000 million tonnes
Barley = 250 + 440 + 320 + 380 + 410 = 1800 million tonnes
Other cereals = 450 + 300 + 460 + 500 + 690 = 2400 million tonnes
Total productions of food- grains = 3700 + 2000 + 1800 + 2400 = 9900 million tonnes
According to the question,
$x$% of the total production = production of wheat
⇒ $\frac{x}{100}\times 9900 = 3700$
⇒ $x$ = $\frac{3700}{9900}×100$
= 37.4
Hence, the correct answer is 37.4%.
