Question : Directions: By interchanging the given two signs and numbers which of the following equations will be not correct?
+ and ×, 5 and 4
I. 4 + 8 × 5 – 7 ÷ 1 = 37
II. 5 × 3 – 4 + 6 ÷ 2 = – 8
Option 1: Only II
Option 2: Neither I nor II
Option 3: Only I
Option 4: Both I and II
Correct Answer: Neither I nor II
Solution :
Given:
+ and ×, 5 and 4
I. 4 + 8 × 5 – 7 ÷ 1 = 37
II. 5 × 3 – 4 + 6 ÷ 2 = – 8
Interchange the numbers and signs in the equations one by one in the given equation.
Equation I:
4 + 8 × 5 – 7 ÷ 1 = 37
⇒ 5 x 8 + 4 – 7 ÷ 1 = 37
⇒ 5 x 8 + 4 - 7
⇒ 40 + 4 - 7
⇒ 37 = R.H.S.
Equation II:
5 × 3 – 4 + 6 ÷ 2 = – 8
⇒ 4 + 3 – 5 x 6 ÷ 2 = –8
⇒ 4 + 3 – 5 x 3
⇒ 4 + 3 – 15
⇒ 7 – 15
⇒ – 8 = R.H.S.
So, both the equations satisfy the R.H.S. Hence, the second option is correct.
